The INTO THE WOODS SERIES manifested from my constant yearning to explore the theme of The Sacred Feminine, the Modern Wise Woman, and the Feminine in nature.
From the stories I poured over as a child, to the experiences I have when I travel in the outdoors exploring the world, to the many women I have met through my commercial and personal work- all lead to this body of work.
I have some dear friends in my circle who truly embody the modern version of a WISE WOMEN. They are the subject of a current and ongoing project- so keep an eye out for that series. They go about their daily life in a way that works in harmony with the natural world. They understand how to nourish themselves physically, intellectually, spiritually and support others to do the same.
They live in a way that aligns with their work and values.
INTO THE WOODS series takes a fanciful approach to the feminine in nature. It takes my younger self’s belief that I would one day make friends with a wood sprite or find the Goddess of the forest one day. These magical feminine beings would exude feminine strength while living in harmony with the Trees and the Earth.
I dressed the women in Swathes of fabric and ribbon and a skirt I had in my costume cupboard. The goal was to create an ethereal, soft flowing feel to the clothing and for the models (the wonderful Georgia, Lily and Ineka) to be calm and still in the wood surroundings.
